The mountain village Koutouloufari at the foot of the mountain Pirgias is about 100 meters above sea level, 1 km in the inland of the seaside village of Hersonissos in eastern Crete. Old stone houses have been restored. Numerous taverns can be found in restored houses, some have a great view of hersonissos to the sea.
Koutouloufari is a suitable location for excursions in the Lassithi table land and for visiting the Minoan sites of Malia and Knossos in connection with the archaeological museum of Heraklion. The place is a quiet oasis above the lively seaside village of hersonissos.
